SHOSHONE COUNTY BIRD CHECKLIST

AND

SHOSHONE COUNTY 2007 BIG YEAR

compiled by Lisa Hardy

The Shoshone County checklist stands at 202 species. In 2005, 157 species were detected, or 77% of the total species ever recorded. Shoshone is primarily a landscape of forested mountains traversed by two rivers, the Coeur d'Alene and St. Joe. Aside from a handful of small, high elevation cirque lakes, still water is rare, and most of the waterbird records come from the manmade ponds of the sewage treatment facility at Page. The river valleys are minor migration corridors, and a few unexpected species turn up every spring and fall.

If you have a species to add, or can beat any of the dates posted so far, call Lisa at 682-4808, or email at basalt@earthlink.net.
