Comments on bird numbers and behavior :

House Finch numbers seemed high to me this year so I went back and added up the totals seen each year (for each year I added up the 4 periods together).  This is what I came up with.

2002-03 -- 508 at 11 feeders

2001-02 -- 211 at 12 feeders

2000-01 -- 237 at 14 feeders

1999-00 -- 226 at 12 feeders

1998-99 -- 179 at 11 feeders

1997-98 -- 116 at 8 feeders

1996-97 -- 299 at 9 feeders

1995-96 --360 at 10 feeders

1994-95 --255 at 9 feeders

1993-94 --232 at 7 feeders

This is far from scientific.  For one thing we have a different set of feeders each year.  Probably about 3/4 stay the same.  It is interesting that we  had such high numbers of House Finch while other members from the Finch Family were missing or low in numbers.  Certainly our weather played a big part.
