Highway 95 Cleanup: 32 Bags and 62 Volunteer Hours
On Saturday, October 3, a stunningly beautiful fall morning, nineteen dedicated Coeur d’Alene Audubon volunteers gathered at Mica Grange for our fall Adopt-A-Highway cleanup. Working together, the team covered a two-mile stretch of Highway 95, from mile marker 423 to 425 south of Coeur d’Alene.
Roadside litter can pose a particular hazard to birds and other wildlife. Food scraps and shiny objects can attract birds to busy highway areas, while discarded materials and debris can create opportunities for wildlife to become trapped or entangled. By maintaining this two-mile stretch of highway near important bird habitat, Coeur d’Alene Audubon is helping create a cleaner, safer environment where birds and other wildlife can forage, nest, and thrive. It’s a simple but meaningful way to care for local habitat while building community pride.
The team safely collected an impressive 32 bags of litter, contributing a total of 62 collective volunteer hours to help keep this well-traveled stretch of highway clean and beautiful. All filled bags were securely placed along the highway for pickup by the Idaho Transportation Department.
A special thank you goes to coordinators Vera and Nicki, who coordinated the event, handled all of the necessary Adopt-A-Highway paperwork and documentation and provided coffee and treats to keep everyone fueled and cheerful.
Most of all, thank you to the nineteen volunteers who gave their Saturday morning to this important community service. Your efforts make a visible difference along one of our area’s busiest roads.
We’re grateful for this wonderful team and look forward to seeing everyone—and hopefully a few new faces—at our spring cleanup!
