Birds of Prey NW Work Day

Coeur d’Alene Audubon has organized a volunteer workday at the Birds of Prey Northwest Campus in St. Maries to support this beloved nonprofit. Volunteers should be prepared to clean out bird enclosures, trim weeds with hand trimmers, clear debris on the ground and cut fallen limbs to manageable sizes. BOPNW will provide us with a tour of the facility, giving us an opportunity to learn more about BOPNW’s facilities and give back to a local organization that supports bird conservation.

For those of you who are on the volunteer list, thank you for volunteering for the Coeur d’Alene Audubon Birds of Prey NW Work Day! Your help is greatly appreciated, and your timing couldn’t be better—there is plenty to accomplish.

Meeting Time & Location

We will meet in the At Home parking lot in Coeur d’Alene at 8:00 a.m. sharp to organize carpools. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can depart promptly at 8:15 a.m.

If you are willing to drive, please arrive with a full tank of gas in case your vehicle is needed for carpooling.

What to Bring

Most of the work will be done near the bird aviaries, where we must keep noise to a minimum. Please bring any hand tools you have for weeding, trimming, and general cleanup. Weed trimmers (weed whackers) may be used only in areas farther away from the aviaries.

The forecast calls for hot weather, so please dress appropriately for working outdoors in the heat. We are starting early to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures.

Be sure to bring:

  • Plenty of drinking water

  • Lunch

  • Snacks

  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.)

Important: Do not drink the water from the facility’s public water system. Because of historic mining contamination in the area, it is not safe for drinking.

Travel Route

Please note that we will travel via Highway 3 from Rose Lake, rather than Highway 95 as previously planned.
