Bellingham Field Trip

Ted and Heather Smith will lead us on a multi-day field trip to Washington’s Salish Sea coastline to observe migrating birds in a birding wonderland. We will stay in Bellingham, close to a number of good pubs and restaurants.  Possible side trip to The Fraser River Delta area in British Columbia. We are in Ted and Heather’s old stomping grounds here and it will be fun to see all the secret spots they have learned over the years. This is a great trip whether you’re a beginning birder or have experience and just want a new adventure!

Target Birds: snow geese; gulls; ducks, seabirds, trumpeter swans; shorebirds and raptors

Access Considerations: A mostly driving tour, with stops along the way for scoping and binocular observation. Some short hikes and walks involved. Be prepared for cold and wet weather. We are working on dividing the days into morning and afternoon segments, allowing participants to opt in and out according to their needs. We will travel together as a group with shared meals, ensuring steady company for those of us traveling solo on this adventure.

This event coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count. If you already use eBird or Merlin, your submissions over these 4 days count toward GBBC. For those of you unable to join us in Bellingham, learn more about how to participate in the GBBC here.

Those who have RSVP’d will continue to receive email updates.
